Mitus: an Aegean eau de parfum, made on Mykonos.
I · The shed
It began with leaves
the goats refused.
In 1987 Eleni Mitu pressed the first Mitus in her father’s boat shed, a few steps from the water.
II · The meltemi
A whole summer
under the north wind.
The meltemi dries the fig leaves and salts the air. The copper stills wait for September.
III · The shore
By evening the stone
still holds the sun.
That warmth is the heart of it: sun-warmed marble, wild sage, salted honey.

Pressed once a year.

Mykonos sits mid-Aegean, granite and wind, with Delos a short row to the west. The meltemi crosses the island all summer; it dries the fig leaves, salts the air, and sets the harvest calendar. The atelier keeps its windows open to it.

The house

Eleni Mitu distilled the first pressing in 1987, in her father’s boat shed, from fig leaves the goats had refused. The house has moved once since: forty metres uphill. It refuses electric light in the drying room; the sun is slower, and better.

There are no counters, no distributors, no travel sizes. Mitus is made once a year and sold from Mykonos. Any flacon, from any year, may return to the atelier at harvest to be refilled. Enquiries open with the new moon.
